A Tennessee woman is facing serious charges after authorities say she allegedly posed as a nurse for years, using stolen nursing license numbers to land multiple healthcare jobs.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Lamonica Robinson Netter was indicted by a Shelby County grand jury after investigators uncovered what they describe as a long-running scheme involving nurse impersonation and TennCare fraud. Authorities say the investigation began after concerns were raised by the Tennessee Health Facilities Commission.
Investigators allege that between 2023 and 2025, Netter used multiple legitimate nurse license numbers to apply for and obtain more than ten nursing positions across Tennessee. The case has raised alarm about how credential verification gaps could potentially place patients at risk.
She now faces charges including TennCare fraud, theft of property valued between $60,000 and $250,000, and impersonating a licensed healthcare professional. Officials say she was arrested in May and booked into the Shelby County Jail.
Cases involving fake nurses often send shockwaves through the profession, especially at a time when healthcare systems are under pressure and patient safety remains a top priority.
For many real nurses, stories like this are deeply frustrating — not only because of the trust placed in the profession, but because it highlights the importance of stronger hiring checks and license verification systems.
The investigation remains ongoing.
